Week 2 of the framing crew.

Monday Feb 17th roof trusses arriveed unexpectantly. Fortunately was a truck driver who had delivered here before and knew how to get the truck turned around.

IMG 2993cI followed them up the hill from the boat landing IMG 2996A whole load of roof trusses - just for my house!! I took a few pictures and got out of there. Didn't want to be in the middle of a "disscussion" between foreman and truck driver about timing of delivery.

IMG 2998They were busy putting down the subfloor and weren't expecting trusses.IMG 3003My SFI certified subflooringNote the SFI LogoNote the SFI Logo

IMG 2999 IMG 3008IMG 3009Snowed a bit overnight, but that didn't slow anything down.

IMG 3006IMG 3005IMG 3004Small square that is lower is for the master bath zero step shower.

I had to go back to Wisconsin Rapids so missed a day. In that time the main floor got mostly framed.

IMG 3012East corner. 3 windows on left of SE wall are master bedroom. Window closer to E end is master bath. Window on NE wall is water closet first, then shower then office.IMG 3013Getting ready to place the floor trusses for the attic/loft. Green sheathing is the ZIP System I talked about in Energy Efficient Builing. It is 1-1/2 inch foam, OSB sheathing & moisture barrier all sandwiched in one panel. IMG 3023Construction miscellaneous - big bolts for trusses, air hoses for nail guns. No power on site so they use a portable generator.

IMG 3027Looking from kitchen. Sliding door on lake side to balcony, side door to deck and then down to lake.IMG 3025IMG 3026Looking from kitchen toward living/dining area. You can see where the big window overlooking the lake will go. The framed wall is temporary - will be a walk through. IMG 3024Laundry room window.

Friday. Put subflooring on attic/loft. The idea is that I won't finish it now, but will be easy to finish in the future if someone wants to.

IMG 3049IMG 3048Open area is for stairwell that wraps around future elevator shaft. It has a floor for now and will just be a closet until that time when an elevator gets put in (it ever.) IMG 3043Looking through floor trusses. I checked...they are level!!

One of the practices of energy efficent building is allowing for better insulation in the corners. So I checked up on my builder, and yes, he was using 2-stud framing in the corners using less lumber and allowing for more insulation. If anyone is interested in this further, refer to the DOE guide to advanced framing at this link.
